Governors

A very warm welcome to Mulgrave. We governors are rightly very proud of our school and we look forward to you joining us. Our partnership with you will ensure that your child’s education and experience here is successful and positive.

Mulgrave is an inclusive school and the governors represent a broad cross-section of the Mulgrave community, from parents/carers to Local Authority, staff and community representatives.

The Governing Body, on behalf of the school community, have the responsibility to:

  • set the school’s ethos, strategy and direction
  • hold the Headteacher to account for the school’s quality and
  • ensure value for money.

I am extremely proud to work with a team that is committed to achieving high standards and providing the very best opportunities for the children in our care.  Staff, supported by governors, work hard to deliver a rich and challenging curriculum; to prepare children for future education and to help them acquire the skills and enthusiasm needed to pursue learning for the rest of their lives.

Again welcome.

Since joining the governing body I have been invited to Inset days and governor days. This has given me an understanding of many things including the learning taking place, attainment levels plus knowledge of the procedures and policies at Mulgrave. Having worked in childcare and education for 20 years and as a parent of 2 Mulgrave Primary School pupils, I am enjoying being involved in school life and looking forward to contributing more in the future.

I believe that I am well placed to be an effective parent governor as a parent of three children that attend the school.  I talk to parents on a daily basis, I feel I can give a parental viewpoint on things that can improve or change at the school and also provide a balanced view on issues representing different sections of the community. I’m bubbly, outgoing and very approachable.

Several  key factors encouraged me to become a Governor at Mulgrave Primary School. Firstly, as a Government Economic Adviser, the Civil Service offers three days (a year) of special paid leave for volunteering. For me, volunteering is one of the best ways to gain experience and build on skills while helping others in the local community.

Secondly, I have a genuine interest in education as I believe it to be a key driver for social mobility. A good primary education can unlock the latent potential of high-aptitude individuals, enabling them to generate greater value in the economy in future than they otherwise would.

Thirdly, I knew my skills and experience would be advantageous to a school and, given my role as an impartial economic advisor to governments of varying political hues, becoming a school’s governor made perfect sense.

Lastly I have ambition to develop my career into a non-executive director / trustee role so the opportunity to work with other governors to set the strategic direction of the would be invaluable.

I look forward to adding value to the senior management team and giving the pupils of Mulgrave the best possible opportunity in life as well as the additional opportunity for personal and career development.
