Foundation Stage

Welcome to Nursery Acorn, Reception Chestnut and Reception Walnut!

In the Foundation Stage at Mulgrave School we aim to provide our children with the bestImg 0077 start in life. Working alongside other agencies, we support children by engaging with their parents, carers, extended family and the wider community. Through play, in a safe, caring environment, all our children are encouraged to become creative, confident, independent, lifelong learners.

In the Nursery and Reception classes we follow the Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum (EYFS), which is suited to the needs of young children. There are seven areas of learning and development, which are all inter-connected.  These are broken down into the prime areas and the specific areas.  The prime areas are particularly important for children’s capacity to learn and helping them build good relationships with others.  The specific areas build their knowledge and prepare them for their later school years.

Parental Engagement

International Day (Autumn 2019)

As part of the Diversity topic, Reception teachers invited parents for an International day and taster session in the reception class. All reception children, staff and parents had a really good time learning about different cultures around the world, exploring traditional artefacts and costumes and tasting multicultural foods.

Writing and Phonics Workshop (Autumn 2019)

Reception and Nursery teachers held a Writing and a Phonics workshop for parents. All parents enjoyed the workshop and left very positive feedback about how useful the training was, and the great ideas shared with them to be able to support their children at home. Reception parents were also invited to watch one of the Phonics lessons in Reception.

“I would like to have more workshops like this. Very well explained”

“I am happy with all of the information given in the workshop. I am now more confident to support my child at home”
