Mulgrave Forest School

“Forest School is an inspirational process that offers children, young people and Mulgrave099adults regular opportunities to achieve, and develop confidence through hands-on learning in a woodland environment.”  Forestry Commission, England.

We are really fortunate to have our own Forest School on site at Mulgrave Primary School.  This a space filled with trees, logs, rocks and mud which the children can explore, discovering new wildlife and creatures every time they visit.  The activities vary depending on the age of the children, ranging from nursery going on a minibeast hunt to year 6 taking part in a controlled campfire.  Teachers understand the value of outdoor learning and therefore plan lessons which take place in the Forest School regularly.  We are fortunate to have one member of staff trained to deliver Forest Schools session in the Early Years.  Another member of staff is currently training within Key Stage 1 and we have plans to ensure there is also a member of the Key Stage 2 staff trained.  These members of staff deliver sessions with the children and also support other teachers with planning and delivering Forest School sessions.
